CITY OF Lebanon
Lebanon is a suburb of Nashville, about 23 miles east of downtown Nashville. Lebanon is a straight shot down I-40 from Nashville. There are also alternate routes like Lebanon Road and I-840. As a Lebanon resident, you can escape the hustle and bustle of the city within minutes. Lebanon is notable and even named for its so-called “cedar glades”, which occur on soils too poor to support most trees and are instead dominated by Virginian juniper. The city was named after the biblical cedars of Lebanon, which grow in the Cedars of Lebanon State Park.
Fiddlers Grove Historic Village, located on the grounds of the James E. Ward Agricultural Center, has more than 50 preserved buildings and artifacts that bring to life the history of Wilson County. Fairgrounds Speedway is a racetrack located at the Nashville Fairgrounds, the oldest track in the United States operating continuously.
Choose from 117 campsites or 30 tent sites and go on an expedition through the 8 miles of hiking trails that meander through the park. For a more suburban escape, check out Don Fox Community Park. It has a 2.5-mile walking and jogging track, a 60-foot wading pool, playgrounds, and pavilions that can be reserved for parties and gatherings. It’s a college town with a small-town feel.
Just 3.5 miles away from the USCCU Lebanon branch is Cumberland University, a private college that was founded in 1842. The average student population is 1,550 with enrollment growing each year. Cumberland University boasts an active student life with 55 student organizations and 21 men’s and women’s athletic teams.
The best time to visit Lebanon is in May, during the annual Southern Smoke BBQ championship. Certain attractions may be temporarily closed or require advance reservations. Hours/availability may have changed.
